The Intertropical Convergence Zone, or ITCZ, is the area that circles the Earth, close to the equator, where the exchange winds of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres meet up. The extraordinary sun and warm water of the equator warms the air in the ITCZ, raising its mugginess and making it light.
