Has is used in present perfect and present perfect continuous tenses as an auxiliary verb, and in present simple tense as a main verb, while had is used in past perfect and past perfect tense as an auxiliary verb, and in past simple tense as a main verb.

Examples: He has never traveled to Paris (auxiliary verb).

He has been reading this book since 8 o’clock.

He has a red car. (main verb).

We had traveled to Paris, before we traveled to London.

We had been waiting at the station 2 hours, before the train came.

I had a house in this town in the past.
